Beyoncé celebrates Black beauty in the video for “Brown Skin Girl.”
The visual, which debuted as part of her visual album Black Is King on Disney+, has now been released as a standalone to YouTube. The stunning clip, directed by Jenn Nkiru, features cameos from Kelly Rowland, Naomi Campbell, Lupita Nyong’o, and WizKid. Bey’s daughters, Blue Ivy and Rumi, as well as her mother, Tina Knowles-Lawson, also join Queen Bey in one scene.
“It was so important to me in ‘Brown Skin Girl’ that we represented all different shades of brown,” Beyoncé told “GMA.” “We wanted every character to be shot in a regal light — Jenn Nkiru came up with the Black debutantes. It was important that we’re all in this together and we’re all celebrating each other.”
Added Nkiru, “My greatest inspiration comes from black people, specifically Black women.”
Black Is King arrived for streaming on Disney+ last month. Inspired by last year’s The Lion King: The Gift, the 85-minute film also features cameos from JAY-Z, Pharrell, Jessie Reyez, Tierra Whack, and more. Prior to the film’s release, Bey also released the video for “Already” featuring Major Lazer and Shatta Wale.
