Conor McGregor Retires From Fighting And Mayweather Throws Shade

Itsrosegold_Admin | June 8, 2020

While UFC 250 was going on at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas, its biggest star was about to drop a bombshell on the world, yet again.

Former UFC double champ, Conor McGregor retired from fighting via a post to Twitter.

The announcement came as a shock to the world, however, one person took notice and was not happy.

Floyd “Money” Mayweather, Jr. might be “retired” and training fighters like Devin Haney but he still is paying attention to the landscape.

Once he got word of McGregor’s retirement he took to Instagram to keep it real and his opinion veered towards the shady side.

“If i’m not mistaken, didn’t you tell Mike Tyson you could beat me if we fought a second time? Now you’re quitting! I thought you wanted to beat the best? Well, if you decide to come back, I will be waiting to punish you again.”

Mayweather famously recorded a 10th round TKO over McGregor back in 2017 in what was dubbed “The Money Fight”. The event came with a novelty WBC Money belt and became the second highest grossing pay-per-view fight in history.

UFC Woes

Currently, the UFC was celebrating the return of McGregor who recently defeated Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone at UFC 246 in Las Vegas. That was back on January 18th 2020 before COVID-19 and the protest movement.

Since then, Jon “Bones” Jones has threatened to leave the UFC over money issues for a proposed heavyweight super-fight with Francis Ngganou.

Henry Cejudo retired immediately after his win over Dominick Cruz at UFC 249 on May 9th. Many have speculated that Cejudo was frustrated with the UFC pay scale after becoming a two-weight class world champion simultaneously.

Then rising welterweight star, Jorge “Gamebred” Masvidal also put Dana White on blast for not stepping his paper up. Masvidal signed a 7-fight extension with the organization making it difficult to receive a release.

With so many protests happening, could the MMA industry with it low paying purses and deals be next?
