The induction of Kobe Bryant, Kevin Garnett, and Tim Duncan into the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame will have to wait until 2021.

ESPN revealed the annual ceremony will be moved to the spring due to coronavirus. Jerry Colangelo, chairman of the board of governors for the Hall of Fame, revealed both the original dates of Aug. 28-30 and the backup plan of Oct. 10-12 will not be able to be met. The new date has not been set yet, however, the board of governors will make a decision on June 10.

“We’re definitely canceling,” Colangelo said. “It’s going to have to be the first quarter of next year. We’ll meet in a couple of weeks and look at the options of how and when and where.”

Along with Bryant, Duncan and Garnett, former Rockets coach Rudy Tomjanovich, WNBA legend Tamika Catchings, Baylor women’s basketball coach Kim Mulkey, Bentley College women’s basketball coach Barbara Stevens, former FIBA and IOC executive Patrick Baumann, and former college coach Eddie Sutton are all going into the hall. Sutton passed away this past Saturday.
